This is a beautiful engraved Die proof of a Canada stamp that was never issued, but it is worth to share with philatelist. (ex. Bringham DP collection) The engraving details as stunning, colour is superb and it now enhance my personal Cartier collection Five Cent 'Maison Où Naquit Cartier' in hardened DIE ESSAY in BLUE, on India (76 x 63mm) with (die number) 'G-O-51' above design, mounted on larger card backing for display (91 x 76mm), a scarce DIE ESSAY. George-Étienne Cartier ne pas confondre avec Jacques. I wonder how many know on this forum who is Jacques Cartier and expect less they know Étienne . Of course so will copy paste wiki |

Was not issue probably because we have 2 Cartier in our history and without first name peoples will think it's the other one . In history at elementary they don't say a word about George-Étienne . |

These essays are from the June-July 1914 period, and were supposed to celebrate the centenary of G. E. Cartier. Cartier finally ended up on a stamp in 1931 (Canada # 190). |

Very nice! Yes, it SHOULD have been issued. You should make a Picture Postage stamp with that. |

BC, this is an interesting idea. I'll consider this and may be a "little Picture postage exchange" to spread the stamps to the community.... |

Good idea Monsieur Timbre! Here is what I did because Canada Post forgot about the 150th anniversary of Vancouver Island. |

As I understand it, the 1914 MacDonald-Cartier set was cancelled because of the outbreak of the Great War. Too bad, because the proofs show a set of very attractive stamps. |

Yes indeed Jarnick. A full set of those proof were recently sold by the Bringham Auction. Realizations were quite high. I had to settle for the 5c which, in my mind was the most attractive of the individual sets in original colours...It is a matter of taste and of course, budget.... |

Fantastic idea, great that you have been able to give it it's due as a postage stamp.
I am new to the forum, I am 99 posts away from being able to trade you one that I have made.
Wealth of information here, thanks
cheers Paul
