The seller is experienced and doing wrong. The buyers are idiots. I am told to cool out because this is life. I have notified the seller of his indiscretion.

How can one tell the difference between the two numbers when you just have a picture?

the plate # in the corner means it is a rotary press printing - only a crook would get this wrong

Hobbyists can quickly look up US commemoratives, definitive, and airmail stamps (1847 through 2010) plate numbers online and for free at http://www.stampsmarter.com/pnt_landing.html
Simply type in plate number and it will return which Scott numbers were used with that number.

I apologize for not asking the question clearly enough. How can you tell without looking at a plate number - like if you only have two stamps?

Perforation size difference. E13 flat plate printing perf. 11

E16 rotary press printing perf. 11x10 1/2

Chasa is quite correct about placement of plate number as a quick id and assessment of the seller

Yes indeed, this is why I said "Hobbyists can quickly look up US commemoratives, definitive, and airmail stamps (1847 through 2010) plate numbers..."

There are over 44,000 plate numbers in the database but we have not yet gotten to all of the Back Of the Book stamps. If anyone wants to help (can be done in Excel) please let me know!

Also they look different from the back (flat vs gumbreaker ridges).

Just received a reply from the seller with just over 1 hour left to go in the auction...

"I am notifying the bidders. ebay will not allow me to withdraw the item."

My reply to this was to contact ebay directly as I know they do have policies regarding cancellation of auctions with bids that are nearing completion. The seller indicated that he had direct contact.

Perhaps we will see some bid cancellations. If not, the right thing to do would be to cancel the transaction after the fact and relist the item with the proper identification.

I too, received the same message. Seller had days to cancel the auction and waited till last moment to notify bidders after numerous complaints and Stamp Smarter notification. Auction ending in minutes. We shall see.

Just sent me an email saying he cancelled auction through ebay. Just not showing up yet.

Looking at the listing now, I would conclude that he sold it for $76.53 + $2.53 shipping.

Too late for him to cancel. Must go through ebay so the sale concluded. Now it is up to ebay to finalize the cancellation.

Last bid was 5 days ago. Seller waited a long time before reporting the "error" Waiting now to see what ebay does. Watch for item to be re-listed as ?
