I purchased a large amount of these, and found a few with what I perceive as scratches. Here is the best example, which apparently has a scratch from the top to the bottom on the right side, but only a partial on the left side. It is not listed in ACSC (that I could find) and I am thinking that it could have just been a scratch through the post office. What do you think?

G'day Partime .

Couldn't find a match in Bill Fiora's 2nd edition 2013 cat.

Thanks for checking Aussie. Does it look like a real scratch to you, or just poor handling in the mailing machines?

Partime, if the scratches were from a mailing/canceling machine one would think they were in a horizontal direction? Just my opinion.

Horizontal ... yes ... if the stamp was placed in the correct orientation. I think you are correct, though, that most of the stamped envelopes, in that timeframe, were probably posted with a stamp in the "normal" orientation.

Wow! I just hit 2000 posts. I can only hope that most people feel that they were qualified.

Partime I'd say they're probably caused by gum splashes under the ink that dissolves during soaking .

Thanks for the probable cause. Here's one more just to show how "common" they are. Again, not listed in ACSC, but this "scratch" is a little lighter and curved. Onto the next subject ...
