Does anyone have the SC #'s for the two 2012 (or 2013?) South Korea 270 Won stamp that depicts an ironclad turtle ship? Attached is an image of one of the two stamps. The other one is a black and white line drawing with a similar background. I can't seem to find the catalog numbers anywhere, and I've searched for many, many hours over many days ![]() ! I have all of the other Scott numbers for the rest of the turtle stamps in my collection, except for this very elusive pair, and the 1946 commemorative issue 25 Chon or Won stamp. The 1946 commemorative of the emancipation from Japanese rule appears to have the same or similar image as the stamp that was issued in 1948 (SC #79), but it's obviously not the same stamp, as the one from 1948 is worth 50 won. The stamps don't even appear in popular online catalogs/shops, despite its denominated official issue status. I appreciate all of the help that you can offer. Thanks in advance!

That's the same image of the ship used in the Admiral Yi Sun-shin stamp from 2000, isn't it? |

Yes, it's the same model ship in the 2000 South Korea 170 Won stamp. I do wonder though if it's a custom stamp, as Korea did offer a design your own stamp. I forget what year and what denomination though. It may or may not be that.
And, that site isn't mine. I was looking at that to find info on that stamp, and I ended up having the same question. The guy who owned that site has unfortunately passed away. |

Ok, I just found out that they were issued on 30 January 2013. And, get this, there may be 9 total from that year! Yet, it's not even listed in the catalog! They're official issues but I can't find it listed anywhere! Here are 6 more, and the one from the first post is different from the 6 shown, which leads me to believe that there are at least a total of 9 turtle ship stamps. That would be awesome, but I don't know where to buy the mini-sheet/booklet of these stamps. :( 2016AUG254.jpg) |

iPen, I am not saying you are incorrect, but the border of these stamps look just like some personalized stamps of the next denomination, 300 Won that were issued in 2013.

Ok, I think I discovered what it is. It's a "My Own Stamp" where customers can print their own designs onto the stamp. It was issued in either 2012 or 2013 most likely. In 2013, the same thing was offered but in 300 Won, and in 4 different varieties, as shown in the link below. So, the turtle ship examples aren't really a government issued design. http://www.koreastamp.go.kr/sp/eg/s...Keyword=2935The 1946 commemorative issue is still a big mystery though. |

Yes, I think you're right - from what I've read, it's a postal stationary - specifically, a stamped postcard. I think the 1946 one shows a "25" denominated in either "Chon" or "Won" (I'm guessing the latter, as there's another one but it's face value is 500 Won but that was in 1953; image below). I checked that link and it doesn't seem to mention a 25 value stamp but there are others from that auction site with a similar style. Maybe it was a private company issuing the commemorative stamp, as the government may have still been recuperating 1 year after WWII. |

Would the 1946 stamp be different from the 1948 stamp SC #79 of similar design, in terms of SC # (if there is one)? Or, is the 1946 one simply a postal stationary version of the official stamp issue? Both pics are below. Actually, they look very different... maybe it has an SC #? Does anyone know? |

In case anyone was wondering, the Korean postal catalog number is CPC1. This is a 25 Chon post card, not 25 Won. |
