Although this stamp appears to be Argentina 1131, the date at the bottom is 1975 rather than 1976, which is what it appears it should be in the Scott 2014 Volume 1 Catalogue. Is this an error? Has anyone seen this before?
It is common for stamps throughout the world to be printed and dated well in advance of issue. It is especially common for stamps issued early to have the date the previous year.
Peter & Timm, Thank you for your responses; however, I do understand that a stamp may be printed in one year and not issued until the following year, or even later, since I've been collecting stamps for many years (although I certainly do not consider myself an expert on anything philatetic. My problem stems from the fact that the picture in the catalogue "appears" to bear the date 1976, although the image is small and I have to utilize a magnifying glass. If it does in fact bear the year 1975, then there is no problem. I was hoping someone else had a copy of the stamp and could tell me whether theirs showed 1975 or 1976 as the date. Can either of you, or any one else, help me in that regard? Thanks! Dot
Thanks Peter! As I was working through the rest of my Argentina stamps, I discovered that they did that a lot - the date on the stamp doesn't match the year it was issued.
