Hi GeoffHa: The cover was sent via England to Santamarta which is
actual Colombia. At the time of this letter it was known as Nueva granada.
The postmark indicats 1852.The postal tarif for Colombia via England was 1F,50 at that time based on the tarif scale of the 1st of august 1849 for
a 7.5g letter. This was the tarif for the Atlantic side of Colombia.
The 1fr. and 2 25c stamps thus are sufficient.
The stamps have the full Paris star cancel.
The ultramar 1 centavo added tax upon arrival.
I think this is an authentic and nice cover. The 2 25c stamps were cut
in a hazardly fashion; but that was not infrequent in those days.
The second cover is cancelled with a small numeral lozenge cancel and should
read 2268 inside, for the town of Nevers.
It looks dubious to me.In the top cancel I see a 2 then a space, then a 8.
So it could be ok too.
