I sat through part of this afternoon's auction session at Kelleher online, and a few of the revenue lots went considerably higher than I expected.

Lot 2473. Went for $375 + 18% = $442.50. This one really surprised me. I valued my example at $300 at retail, and mine is on piece with a bright red handstamp cancel; aesthetically very attractive. I expected this one to be in the $100-200 range...

Lot 2476. Went for $325 + 18% = $383.50. That is an INSANE price. R27c DTs are just not that rare. I think that someone(s) assumed that just because the item is unpriced (a dash) it is automatically rare or valuable. Not at all. Amos just doesn't have enough data to establish a price.

I must have 2 dozen or so R27c DTs, including multiples. In my opinion they are a $10-30 item. A strip like this, maybe $100 IMO.

sometime only few news collectors with deep pocket can change the game. I have the same feeling happen with Austrian/Hungarian Revenues, they sell very high

I have a block of six with four bottom double transfers. The bottom DT is more common then the top DT, despite the dash.

I agree with Dan and Bart on lot 2476, these double transfers are very common. Once again this sale points out the need for a comprehensive analysis of revenue plate varieties. I frequently have to update my library of plate varieties and Dan has been doing a great job of identifying the paper and perforation varieties.

Much as I agree with the idea of a comprehensive analysis of revenue plate varieties, it won't matter to auction houses. They don't bother checking revenues most of the time anyway. A taxpaid recently sold at a major auction house for $325; a quick peek at Eric Jackson's site would show he sells it for $15. Someone obviously took the $300-$400 estimate at face value.
