One of the key aniline stamps of the King George V era with a strong aniline presence. Printed in 1917 on rough paper with a single Crown watermark, which as a result of the strong aniline the watermark can easily be seen from the back. The stamp is in choice mint unhinged condition and the non-aniline regular issue is catalogued in Stanley Gibbons under 47a and the ACSC 72A.

It appears that original poster mistakenly uploaded images with the same name. This overwrites the file on the sever without notification and is why this notice was added to the upload tool.

I emailed the original poster yesterday to see if he would re-upload this images.

Sorry everyone, I must have had temporary insanity. I now know why my uploads are being screwed up, I thought I was being attacked by gremlins. I will again attempt to reload the KGV.

The entire topic of Aniline ink is fascinating to me, and I intend to do more research as I have quite a few of the Australian King George stamps. For example, here are three examples that also show the problem with scanning. In person, the top stamp is definitely a redder, almost lake color. But compared to the two "normal" ones below, I don't see a lot of difference here.

Here are the same items, flipped over to show the back. My impression is that the right hand stamp on the bottom is Aniline. Correct?

You're correct partime, I believe the stamp next to it is also aniline.

For what it's worth and I don't think I'm too good with colours but I would'be put those two as aniline.

I believe these three would be aniline also -

If a collector thinks he/she has a "Salmon Eosin" shade group, Michael Drury offers a free certificate appraisal, or did so, in 2007.
Write first prior to submitting stamp.

That's something to know, pretty old but worth a check - will be looking into at some point - thanks Rod.

I'd suggest still relevant Castor,
At the time of the publication, Mr Drury was researching all pertinent issues for a monograph.
Those works must take years of research.

Not of my collection.
