A superbly centered and very scarce 1d Queen Elizabeth with a colour trial red overprint - never issued; and the re-issued 1947 black overprint of the same stamp.

The B.C.O.F. sets sold today were originally issued on May 8, 1947; the original stamps issued on October 12, 1946 were recalled a few days later as a result of the military overprinting them without permission from The Post-Master General's Department.

The colour trials were printed in 1946 and were part of the original overprints; Though colour trials of the originals still exist and are very expensive, the gold overprint (known to oxidise and appear brownish) is rare and seldom seen for sale in the condition I only prefer, in mint unhinged condition.
