What is the very best way tried and true to get these apart? I know now they are not mint, I want to do this with minimal gum loss

Go to the search function, and type in "stuck stamp" and choose the option for "exact phrase". You will find at least 10-20 options to choose from. Good luck.

Assuming you don't want to soak them, try putting them in the microwave. That often works, to varying degrees of success.

BTW, you are fortunate they are not high value stamps.

I've tried freezing, microwave, and some other methods. But, in all cases ended up soaking them and, of course, destroying the gum in the process.

I just don't care all that much about the gum. I'd give 'em a good soaking.

Try a sweat box. Place tissue in a tupperware container, pour boiling water on the tissue until it just covers the tissue, put the stamps on a mesh or grille which sits above the water level and put the lid on the box. You can microwave as well if you want but not too much! Give it 30 minutes and tease the stamps apart with tweezers. It works every time for me, and I have separated up to 6 layers. Most of the gum will be left on the back of the stamp, but if any sits on the front then clean it off carefully with wet tissue or cotton wool.
