They are only 50 miles apart. Not an inconceivable distance to travel in one day by horse. Probably the letter came in just in time to get out on the next shipment.

I've had regular mail go from upstate NY to Europe in a day...but not very often. ;)

Agree. 50 miles in 3:15, no doubt by train. Quite easy. Direct shot on the Boston & Providence RR. (scan from Cram's 1886 Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World.)



Add: Note both cancels are of the Wesson "Time on the Bottom" style.
