I expect it means curved rather than squared corners, as you can see from your example.

Thanks 22c.
I was imagining fillet welding, curved corners now makes sense,
I was over thinking it.

Hi Rod,

Quote:
Members : Still looking for Revenues ID List, if possible..... (Damga Pulu, Harc Pulu seen on 1962 Visa )

https://goscf.com/t/50933&whichpage=12#446783

I missed this when you first posted it.

Damga Pulu = Revenue Stamp

These vertical stamps are from a long set of General Revenue stamps that used a number of similar vertical designs and were first issued in 1925.

McDOnald gives a long listing, #33 to #76 plus "a" numbers for shades and even then he doesn't list all the perf variations for each value.

Most values come without watermarks but for these he just lists six different perforations in the header (rather like the way Scott often does).

He then lists separately by perforation stamps with a star and crescent watermark.

I hope Isfila is more specific about this. I would prefer to see explicit tables of value by perf the way Michel tends to treat complex perf designs.

Your three stamps are:

#33 10 paras olive-sepia
#34 10 paras brown-ochre
#35 20 paras orange

Harch Pulu = Expenditure Stamp

These come from a long set of Expenditure Fees stamps in a single design issued over many years starting in 1934.

McDOnald gives another long listing, #35 to #785 plus "a" and "b" numbers for shades but this time he lists the issues by perf. He also lists some stamps that have a yellow or blue underprint.

He says these are found on thin, medium and thick papers but these are not listed separately.

The 1 kurus stamp here has no underprint and could be:

#35 reddish violet perf 12
#35a slate-lilac perf 12
#36 purple perf 12
#63 purple perf 10
#70 purple perf 10x12

This 1 lira stamp with a nice yellow underprint is from the 1950s:

#52 dark green & yellow perf 12

Lots of random topics you guys are covering here - in rapid fire! I'll comment on a few:

Isfila does not list revenues. Even my specialized revenue cat is just for Ottoman empire - and those basic stamp tax stamps are not included.

Your 'imprimes' overprint is a fake. Not even a good fake...

The 5 para empire stamp is black. There is no background color, nor any background design. (I can't explain Scott's 'black & pale gray' description.)

It does appear on two different paper types - one normal & the other on 'thick yellowish' paper. The specialized cat lists a thick paper 'grey-black' version - where the background color appears more grey than the standard white in the normal stamp.

The stationery item with the bisect is the most interesting item. These envelopes were first issued in 1869. There are two types - distinguished by the embossed seal - which you can see slightly above & to the left of the stamp. The embossed seals appear both on the left & the right sides of the envelopes. This one appears to be type II, and is likely an Isfila AN6A - issued in 1871. There is no used value given - which is why this one perhaps is so pricey from Siegel. (Unused value is app $20 from 2011 cat)

The 2pi duloz bisect makes it even more desirable & unique. Although I don't spend alot of time on postmarks, I do know the triple-box cancel is also very scarce & collectible. Envelope looks a bit banged up, & vandalized with someone making pencil notes, but overall in good shape. If you buy (bought?!) this item, please post a better scan - especially of the embossed seal & stamps!

Rod,

"Alexandroupouli"

was Dedeagach with "ch" as in "church" in Bulgarian

and Dedeaghach again with with "ch" as in "church" in Turkish

and Dedeagats in Greek (except now they call it Alexandroupouli)

but Dedeagh on French stamps for some reason.

I guess this was pronounced something like "Day-day-agh" (without the diphthongs implied by my spelling). Apologies to any linguists out there for my rubbish transliteration!

The French now call the town "Alexandroúpoli".

Interestingly, the French Wikipedia has no entry for "Dedeagh", has only a automatic redirect for "Dedeagatch" (to Alexandoúpoli) and only a handful of uses of the word "Dedeagh" all of which are in references to the French post offices and their stamps.

Perhaps a French member here can give us more insight.

No sorry Geoff,
belongs to the original poster Mr. Jizba Zdenek, as shown in the newsgroup post.

Never ever come across a Port Lagos stamp, in my travels.
