Presumably the line that Lawrence and Faisal were enthusiastically blowing up a year or two later. Fascinating.

Collection Value indicator.

A fairly representative collection, some nice Turkey first issues,
Others sets missing the key values.
Shall be interesting to see movement.

Currently $260 shipping incl.

Wow, that's a lot for shipping. I see it would be the same to the UK.

It is a lot Nigel, but consistant with purchases I have made from Nth America.
Shipping prevents me from purchasing much anymore from there.

It was marvelous times, when Australia had parity dollar, a few years ago.

Conversely, shipping / Registration from Germany has been really cheap.

Hi Rod,

The "unknown revenue" is actually a telegraph seal from the 1920s.

1886 "Amphir" "Crescent" PTT Overprints. 1917 Study:

Have trouble with this fellow.
1. Yet to discern, on any example, the Grey Background
2. 2 differing papers used?
3. Gum toning?

Large Turkey Collection (See Above)

SOLD $520 US. With Ship (If appropriate) US $697
AUD = $922

Individuals can judge their collection status.
I appraised it around $420
The vendor, I suspect, has a large purchaser base.
Looks good for Philately in these times.

Unsure of what the Pulko Catalogue would value at.

Shipping I thought was fair, if one was purchasing part collections, Pages, individual stamps, you could almost increase that cost three fold.

Hi Rod,

I don't believe there is a background colour on the 5 paras black stamp from the 1886 set despite what is says in Scott.

I've stared just now at two examples that I have each of stamps with and without this overprint in good light under a 5x magnifier and I see no sign of a background design.

I think at some point the catalogue editor assumed there was a grey background because the other values have some form of background pattern and also because the paper isn't a a uniform white in colour.

As well as there being no background visible on your stamps or mine, neither SG nor Michel mention a background colour for this value.

Wow. Nigel, that's a huge call. I am really surprised.
I tend to agree with you.
The issue is fairly common, I shall be inspecting any new arrivals.
I hope Michael can suggest what Isfila indicates.

Study: Attempting to discern the grey on the "Amphir" "Crescent Stamps"

Sc#67 10 paras Green on Pale Green,
Sc#87 10 paras Green on Grey

Sc#P10 June 1891 This must be Green on Grey according to Scott. Looks pale green to me, which means the Forged Opt has been placed on the wrong stamp.
Double jeopardy.
P 11½

FORGERY : IMPRIME Overprint
Detection: The period (square dot) in the Arabic script, above the "R" should be above the centre of the "R"

In preamble of the Overprint "Corners are filleted" any members aware of what that means? (evidence of joins to the sides? )
