I wouldn't want this thread to die after only 27 pages...perhaps time to start back at the beginning??

Notice the date on the first two...they pre-date Scott by a year...

Isfila 3,4,5,6 = Scott 1, 2, 4, 5

Isfila 7-18 = Scott J1-J4

Isfila 19-20 = Scott 6,7

Thanks for sharing this.

I'm intrigued by the 1862 dates in Isfila. Thanks for pointing this out.

If I look at my catalogues:

SG gives 1st Jan 1863 as the first issue date.

Michel gives 13th Jan 1863 for the first issue date.

This suggests that maybe SG has used an old style date and Michel the new style equivalent for the same date.

Michel and SG both say that the first printing was made in 1862 but not issued until 1864.

In the meantime the second printing was issued in January 1863.

The third printing was issued in either December 1863 (Michel) or 1864 (SG).

Printing I consisted of the 2 and 5 piastre stamps on thick paper = SG 7-8

Printing II consisted of the 20 paras, and 1, 2 and 5 piastre stamps on thin paper = SG 1-4

Printing III consisted of the 20 paras and 1 piastre stamps on thick paper = SG 5-6.

I've simplified the above to ignore shades and other varieties.

Does Isfila give us more information on all this?

By the way my Pulko catalogue simply gives 1st January 1863 as the issue date for all these stamps!

Hard to cross back & forth between catalogs -

But yes - printing generally agreed to have been done in 1862 - but not issued until 1864. 2nd printing done in 1863, and issued in 1863. So weird/strange & difficult to follow...

First printings are on extremely thin paper - almost transparent.

still awaiting my collection from the Netherlands.

Would love to see a couple of your stamps, up close and personal
one of the first stamps scanned at say 600dpi.
We rarely see close ups of the first issues of Turkey.

For anyone looking at values, just keep in mind: my isfila cat is 2011. The prices are in TL. The exchange rate when this cat was published was app. TL1.5/$1. So the TL100 value was app. $67.

The current TL/$ rate is app TL3.6. (Currently TL100 = $28)

For the Tughras, I consider the Scott values to be much more logical (to the extent any of the Scott values are logical) - Isfila is high. But Scott doesn't list #1 or #2...

One more page for fun. First page of my album, which is Minkus. The layout follows the Scott listings, which is why I had to make a separate page to follow the Isfila layout...

Gotta put this one here - not a stamp you get to see very often. Also shows how deceiving pictures can be from the front - this stamp is almost cut in half - but looks pretty good from the front. And even with how damaged it is, still going for more than$400...

According to Isfila, there were only 175 of these museum revenue stamps overprinted for use as postage in 1921...
