$400 seems a great investment stamp, with an issue number of 175.

What exactly was a "Museum stamp" ? ....Supposedly for receipts of purchases?

Well there were only 6 of them issued - 4 in 1908 & 2 more in 1910. (High values on just the revenue stamps, without overprints.) Like any other revenue stamp - to pay a tax for something. Logic follows it would be for a purchase by a museum. Always seemed strange to me too, but given they had revenue stamps for almost every imaginable purpose - tree-cutting fees; cleaning fees etc - why not museums?

On the first printing of the tughra stamps. They weren't going to release them at all due to the issues with the control band overwriting the design but they ran out of the second printing before the 1865 issue was ready. They reprinted the low values on paper they colored on one side and released the 1st printing for the higher values. I find the border frame to be a much better indication for determining 1st printing, since the bottom border is so much closer to the design than in later printings. You only need to use the secret marks for examples cut really close at bottom where the control band is also unusually low. Control band at top is always 1st printing, control band at bottom overwriting the design is almost always 1st printing.

Great to see the revolution overprinted museum stamp. That is one of the rarest of Turkish, beat only by a couple more of those overprints IIRC.

The Mustafa Kemal Pasha, Kemal Ataturk issues are fun, though Scott doesn't differentiate well between papers. I think I'vr got them covered now, to 1940 anyway, though my website has an older scan missing the 250k on matte paper.

Finally, after keeping the topic in memory over the past few months,
and being looked down upon, in Tool Shops.
Serendipity calls, as she often does, when one is patient.

A bargain from a Garage sale, A Lass dropped around a flyer for her garage sale, she often gives me her stamps clipped from envelopes,
On the flyer, in bold letters, amongst others........MICROMETER

Yay!

That's a nice question! I hadn't noticed this before.

If you look at the other values with this design you'll see that none of the Turkish numbers is upright.

They are all at an angle slanting in towards the centre.

Still fumbling around with the first issues.

I have this as Sc#2a 1 Piastre Black on Grey.

The paper is very much thicker, than the Sc#1 I posted.
Sc#1 was .00125" thick
Sc#2a = .00325" thick

The secret mark qualifies.

This stamp looks dodgy to me, I don't like the way the Crescent flattens off
at the left hand frame line.

No colour on back of stamp, could be Sc#7 ?
