Thank you Perf 12.

Michael, seems your Stock Cert has a CV around 50 euros,
Nice piece for your collection, one for the ultra specialist.
I have not seen them before either.

One wonders how the impressed were operated, by the punch and die,
hand hammers (unlikely) or a floor pedal machine.
Not seen much discussion on these ( eg the Great Britain impressed revenues)

Looking forward to seeing the Ottoman ox-heads. I have a whole bunch but, like old Persia or Hungarian WWI occupation stamps, I'm sure most are forgeries -- until I have good enough literature they sit around in the "reference material" pile.

Got the OX-HEADS lot in the mail yesterday ,very good on the regular issues but no Postage Due or Newspaper issues . Give me a week to sort and mount

It will be very interesting to see what you have. I read that there are loads of forgeries out there but I'm unsure how to distinguish them and how to categorise them. Looking forward to seeing them!

I visited the Leighton House museum in Kensington today. Its most striking feature is the fabulous range of Ottoman tiling, which Leighton sourced in Damascus and elsewhere. A few pictures as part of my occasional efforts to generate interest in wider Ottoman history and culture to accompany your stamp collection!

Very nice photos Geoff! Thanks for posting these.

I hadn't heard of this museum but I hope to visit it soon.

Nigel - worth a visit. Also worth having the Art Fund pass to avoid the eye-watering entrance fees at these little places! Not my photos, by the way - none allowed in the museum.

Rod,

I noticed while book shopping that Birken has released two more monographs this year. Price is about €14/volume.

6. Sultanreise und Postamtsserien (Sultan's Trip and Post Office Series)
7. Ansichten von Konstantinopel (Views of Constantinople)

Thank you Postmaster.

-----------------------------------------------

Michael,
Sc#58 is Isfila #108
Block of 4 not listed as a specialised.
They exist, as shown in the catalogue, otherwise Isfila shows a blank square,
with "Not recorded up to date as mint block of 4"

They do not price blocks of 4.

Sc# 58 exists in 7 varieties, the most valuable Cat #108FC05 (Printed in the colours of the 5 gurush = 4,800.00 TL [$1,400 Aussie dollars])

ie: Sc#57b shown as $400 US

For confused fans of the Turkey thread, Rod is answering an off-line question I had asked while we were discussing the 25 piastre values of the Empire series.

The block he is referring to:

Not much else to say about this, except that the specialized catalog for this series prices this at 4x the normal single stamp price - for what it's worth...

That is one handsome block of 4 Michael, lovely stuff.
What perforation gauge are those?
So the coefficient is 4.

The block is perf 13. The catalog says 13 1/4 - but my perf gauge has only 13 & 13 1/2. 13 1/2 doesn't work - matches up nicely w/13 - tough to measure perfs on these issues. So if you want to call it 13 1/4, go for it. One of the things I like about Turkey/Ottoman is that I don't need my perf gauge or watermark tray very often!

Found these the other day as well. Need some ID help - I've never seen the 100k stamp before - text on the bottom says 'World Kids Book Week' - I assume some kind of cinderella??

The other 2 I've seen - they're Kizilay cinderellas - but haven't seen them with the denomination blacked out??

Any help on these would be greatly appreciated!!

For your consideration:

A Plakky Perf guage, a few $ from your local dealer,
has a sliding scale.........

(Great Britain Machins often have the Quarter guage, so just slide the stamp till the teeth match)

This beats hands down any perf guage /software, I have met with.
