The Stamps Of Turkey / Turkiye: On Steiner Pages.

I see Scott lists these three stamps as #J80-82 even though they note that they were used as regular postage stamps.

goodness me, I looked and looked and looked, through Scott for those Black prints,
I could not crack it.
I saw "stamps of 1892" but the postage stamps of 1892, are coloured, I didn't click
that they meant the same design, I went looking for black stamps.
Even looked at Syria

Indeed, the "Bull's Heads" PTT issues, are where most of my gaps are,
they are hard to find, and sought after at auction, I usually get outbid.

BTW: Thanks for that, I had assumed it was another route to promote use of Turkish stamps, similar to the "discount" overprint device.

I had looked at Stanley Gibbons for the reason of the PTT overprint, but did not see any explanation.

Thanks a lot for the pdf search tutorial - absolutely brilliant
I agree it beats excel by far in terms of ease of use - it removes the need to create an excel database in the first place. However - if one have a postmark where one can make out two different strings / parts of the text the pdf search will not help, while excel can. And excel will list only the matches found in one list, which is also quite convenient.
With your kind help I can now use both methods - which is gold! Thanks again

I find Ottoman postmarks fascinating but I have never been able to read the Turkish language ones. The only time I can identify one of these is by slowly tracking it down in my Coles & Walker handbooks.

My main interest is Crete and over the years I've assembled about thirty Turkish postmarks from Crete but it's been a very slow process!

nigelc - - very difficult to read the non-latin postmarks. Personally I only try to identify the latin-script postmarks, ignoring the others. I realize it means I will miss out on the most interesting arabic postmarks, but so be it - time is limited.

Very well done with 30 identified Crete postmarks ...I have yet to discover my first Crete postmark I am glad to see others interested in finding Turkish stamps used abroad
