The Value of a good Philatelic forum (SCF), knowledgeable members, and the free exchange of information. Consider: The price achieved would suggest the item will go to a collection of some merit, and the item be preserved for generations to come. Well done all that contributed ! SOLD $307 (Do not understand the postage quoted however) |

Interesting sale Rod, but I am confused (or need more coffee), is this your sale? Or your purchase (and please with the price)? |

Hi, everyone:
The Izmir Municipal was my sale (still uncompleted). Rod222 questioned the postage. Postage was $30 to be sent to anywhere other than the US or Canada. Mailing to other countries is very risky with valuable items which requires tracked postage with a signature. Even sending like that does not mean that the postal authority in the receiving country will treat it the same way. They frequently become lost or damaged, so the cost is higher. Postage to Canada and the US was free to the winner. It will still be a cost of $15 CDN.
I had no idea it would bring this much. Yes, it was quite a find but they sure don't come very frequently! SCF sure did help out in identifying it and my thanks to all including Perf12, Bobeid and Rod222.

I keep missing these discussions...they seem to fly by & disappear??
The appropriate term here, I believe, is: holy sh*t?!!!!
A 'high' or 'quite a price' is the understatement of the year!
Congrats Steve - nicely done!!
(Anyone here the buyer??)
The buyer knows something very specific that nobody else knows? Please follow-up with the buyer Steve - very curious to hear his/her comments on this stamp! |

New question:
Anyone know why they changed the overprints from a 6-pointed star in 1915 to a 5-pointed star in 1916?? |

The six pointed star is a Jewish format, the five pointed is the "Ay-yildiz" format, been on the flag since 1844 ? Australian illustrator...Monty Wedd (From "Stamp Oddities" ) (Creator of "Captain Justice" and "The Scorpion" ) I posted this some years ago, on another forum, and there was dissent, as I recall, over what I cannot remember. |

You're the man, Rod. Thanks very much!
It actually makes perfect sense to me. Question never dawned on me until this morning - mad at myself for not having this answer. But very logical...
Anytime religion becomes part of the discussion, dissent is inevitable. So understandable. Hopefully constructive!
As a Jewish person living in Muslim Turkey, I'm happy to now know this! All we needed was a little help, as always, from down under!! |

I cannot see a type that is on the cover. Thanks for any help. UPDATE : aha! I think it is type 11 ? PS: The inside of the cover, seems to be newsprint, are we able to have and image of that at all ? |
