Ottoman stamp cover Andrinople/Stamboul.(Addressed in Turkish & Armenian)(Sc.39+40 Type IV) (New Addition) Not sure of the date. The Stamboul arrival cancel is june 5 77.The Andrinople departure cancel reads 21 Mai 76? (The "6" was was mistankenly placed in the cancellar?). The Bachtche Capussi oval cancel reads 23 MY 7 ? Information on this cancel needed. It would be possible the Stamboul 77 should be a 76... From Info I found The lianos Type "Bachtche Capussi" Istamboul city Delivery was used 1865-76 ? Can this be confirmed? |

Note: I am completely out of my depth here. With Postmarks, it's like swimming the English Channel, and I have just left the beach in England. The Bachtche Capussi oval cancel. Looking at Coles and Walker, the Pmk defies mention or illustration, all I could find was the following.... Vilayet of Scutari Scutari: Ishkodra (T): Scutari d'Albanie (UPU): Shkoder 1849 This town in Albania should not be confused with Scutari (Uskudar), an Asiatic suburb of Constantinople where Florence Nightingale worked during the Crimean War. The oval cancellation of Scutari, given in Tchilinghirian & Stephen's 'Austrian Post Offices Abroad' is that of the Constantinople City Post established by Liannos in 1865. The cancellation appears common in Auction catalogues throughout the internet. First time I have seen it. Quote: (The "6" was was mistankenly placed in the cancellar?). Opinion: Not a numeral 6, that is the letter "S" for whatever reason ? |

Hi perf12 and Rod,
The Constantinople "BAGHTCHE CAPUSSI" (Garden Gate) postmark is listed in Coles & Walker: Part 3, Chapter II, page 34 with the postmark shown as #18 on page 35.
Rod, the Tchilinghirian & Stephen Austrian Post Offices Abroad booklets are old but still very useful.
I have Part Five (from 1964) which covers the offices in Greece but I don't have the one that deals with Albania. |

Hi Filipo, Personal Opinion. Fairly standard fare for Turkey. My pick of the bunch Followed by Possible forged Pmk (looks like Spiro) Thessaly all SON (socked on the nose) would suggest forged Pmks Dangerous forgeries exist Everywhere on the internet from pennies to fabulous unrealistic prices |

Thank you very much, Rod! Interesting, I have also first note the same stampe as you... on the postmark is specified "Pazari" which has associated me to the city of Novi Pazar, in today Serbia (Sandzak - a part of Serbia with mostly Muslim- Bosniak citizens)... however, term "Pazar" in Turkish means Market or something similar, so I suppose that there was much more "Pazari" in the toponyms of the ex- Otoman impery. |

Quote: on the postmark is specified "Pazari" filipo, I never responded to this, as the curve of the Pmk suggests a preceding word. There are lots of "Pazari" Osman Pazari Tartarpazari etc & etc. A 600 dpi image, or best , may crack it. |

Good morning Rod and filipo,
The "...PAZAR" postmark appears to be ADA-PAZAR from Adapazari.
The elliptical postmark with the horizontal lines looks like P.I.O. (Postes Impériales Ottomanes) from Constantinople. |
