The stamp Turkey issued for 10 (roman X) years of NATO membership has only a small Peace Dove. The one for 40 years of NATO is a bit larger. And the one for the NATO summit is even carrying an olive twig. I found a photo of Istanbul's skyline which almost matches that in the background of that stamp.

(Hi Rod, 'Children with Peace Doves' is a wonderfully rich chapter within the main topic. K.)

Albania's NATO Peace Dove is keeping up with a fighter jet, 1999. Albania was one of the last countries to become a member, 2009; so this stamp was issued before Albania joined!

Hi Rod, Is that Love Dove really gold plated? Beautiful! Can it be used to mail a letter or is it a souvenir? I found a scan of an Angolen stamp with a Peace Dove in gold for the 90th anniversary of Rotary International, but I don't know for sure if it is really gold plated or if it can really be used.

Good morning Kris,
there is an old saying chestnut out there.........
"If it is produced for collectors, avoid collecting it"

Of course, stamp collecting is the ultimate democracy, so we collect what we want.

They are, as I am led to believe solid gold 22 carat, and quite a few countries have produced them.
Choose your poison...........

The agreements of the Paris Peace Conference of 1946 were ratified on the 10th of February, 1947. This Dove stamp was issued only a few days later.

(Hi Rod, Some interesting info on the gold stamps! Too bad they aren't Doves. Sometimes a FDC decorated that way can be pretty, but has no real value beyond drawing more attention to the stamp itself. The design in your Europa stamps is quite unique. K.)

Cyprus issued a stamp in 1970 in honor of 25 years of UN help organizations, especially the food program, represented by the ear of grain. That was only a few years before the Turkish invasion of northern Cyprus. UN peacekeepers are still on the island.

(Hi Rod, Most interesting North Cyprus stamps! Especially when one considers that this part of the island is recognized as a nation only by Turkey who took it by force in 1974. Lots of Cyprus stamps in the thread on refugees. K.)

The 3rd of October is German Unity Day, celebrated for the first time in 1990. Each year the main festivities take place in a different city, this year in Dresden under the motto: "Building Bridges". Dresden opened its new bridge across the Elbe in the summer of 2013. On the background of the German national colors the Bolivian Peace Dove is carrying Campsis flowers instead of an olive twig.

Hi Kris,
may I be as bold as to offer another observation,
I'd like to suggest the flower is Cantua buxifolia.
What do you think?

Cantua buxifolia, a name I know well in Australia (Qantus)
