Bangladesh issued a souvenir sheet and a FDC for the Year of Peace which I think is one of the most expressive of all: the Dove tears apart a framed picture of war to expose the flowers behind it. Unfortunately I don't know the name of the artist. (1986, sheet 8 X 11 mm.) Hi Rod, I do indeed keep a simple picture file of certain threads. K. |

Tuvalu honored N. Mandela, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and Nobel himself in this small colorful sheet with several Peace Doves and Bible citations. (Hi, Rod, The Rumanian drawing for 25 Years of the Global Peace Movement is a very original idea. K.) |

Hello Kris, Romania has always been, very innovative in their postage stamp designs and emmissions, whilst some may argue, the quality was lacking. The very first 3 stamps they issued, were coloured to match their flag. Poland 1950 Peace Congress 15 Zloty. |

Whilst the cynosure of this thread, is Doves as a representative of Peace, it may be noted that, both an Allegory of Peace exists, (Usually a lass with a branch of Olive tree) along with the "Angel of Peace" replete with wings.
Australia got it horribly wrong with one of their Christmas aerogrammes, featuring the Angel of Peace, which turned out was Albrect Durer's "Angel of Death"

Hi Rod, You're right about allegories, often the human figure carries or is accompanied by a Dove. Sometimes the shape of the Dove is so unusual, that one doesn't recognize it at first glance. As in this Tunesian stamp in which the contours of the continent represent the Dove. Year of Peace and Security, 2010, done by Chokri Cherif. |

Hi Rod, Too bad your 'Deutsche Post' allied occupation west has a blemish. These stamps were printed in 1947/8 (artwork by Höpner) and were overprinted BERLIN in 1948 and then again in 1948/9 with a change in denomination after the DM had been introduced. Some are quite valuable. After April 1949 Berlin west had its own stamps. I looked through the Hands thread and didn't find them although I have several, so I can post the last version here. (Reunification Day is next week, the 3rd of October.) |

Hi Rod, The blue NATO Turkey Dove is simply cute. Do you have the ones Turkey issued in 1952, when that nation became member? The US issued a NATO Dove in 1999 for the 50th anniversary of foundation. 1999 also marks the year in which NATO grew by 12 members. |
