The word is "staves", not slaves. A stave is one of the thin, narrow, shaped pieces of wood that form the sides of a cask, tub, or similar vessel. |

You misunderstand me. Look at the first paragraph of the last shipping order (Last Image) It quotes the Brigantine named "Favorite" In 1802 this was registered as a Slave Trader.

Typically, slavers would carry standard goods on the return, having deposited their cargo of slaves in the Americas, I think. |

Laws of Pennsylvania 1790 "leogan Staves used for sugar hogsheads". Law passed concerning the quality of barrel staves offered for sale. |

Thanks lackemacher. I researched Leogan Staves, without success, I thought perhaps the author had spelt it incorrectly.
It also explains the Beatles "Sgt Peppers" song, for the benefit of Mr. Kite, "through a hogshead of real fire"

There are a number of hogshead beer stamps. A hogshead was equal to 2 barrels.
