I have come across several multiples of early Danish stamps. For example I have two strips of 3 stamps used Scott #6. It was actually a strip of 6 at one point but someone in their infinite wisdom cut the strip in half. My question is there a premium for multiples of stamps or is it just a case of multiplying the single value and where would be the best place to sell such items? v.

It depends on the stamp. When it is an older stamp like the ones you have chances are that a strip is (muvh) more valuable. The actual value depends on all sorts of things. The best place to sell such items? ebay is usually a good place. Peter |

Multiples of these unperforate does come at a premium. They are actually priced in the "AFA Special Catalog". In the book "Classic Stamps of Denmark" by Lasse Nielsen you can see the largest recorded multiples of each one. |

Thanks for the advice. I have had some bad transactions on E-Bay and really don't want to go that route. There are some stamp shows coming up in my area that I will try and seek some Danish experts to get their opinion. I have been told dealers will only give you 30% of the stamps value but without knowing their value I could get hoodwinked. Trying to find a copy of the catalogue suggested by ClassicaalStamps to use in valuation seems impossible without actually buying a copy.
Thanks,
v. |

Vanchester, are you a member of the APS or its Canadian equivalent? If you are a member of either you might be able to borrow the Nielsen book from their library?

an object like this should be auctioned off at a established house. and with all objects you should sell it where there are biggest chance of a bidding war. which would be Denmark, and theres only one serious auction house there.

TO ALL READERS ----In my opinion ,this was done wrong . First the owner was concern with being "GETTING HOODWINKED" and the second thing he wasn't going to do any research or waste money on "without actually buying a copy" . Love his attitude ,these are the type of people I can do business with . Lets look at this from what I read here , he has something of value but doesn't trust anyone in Canada but willing to mail it overseas to someone he doesn't know . He really thinks the auction firm is going to give him the best deal ---NOT TRUE . The owners of the firm maybe are going to be the buyers without his knowledge ,after they expertize the stamp for themselves . He needed to have a certificate done by a expert who would give him a written opinion to the cancel, paper or any plate flaws or which printing .None of this may be disclosed by the auction firm .

I was concerned about getting hoodwinked but felt selling the stamps through an auction house was my best bet. They had times set aside for anyone to come in and preview the stamps, which in my opinion was ample opportunity for any expert to inspect the stamps. I feel as if they sold for a pretty good price, far more than I expected before the auction. Sometimes personal satisfaction comes before dollar value. They have been sold to someone who will appreciate them far more than I would, something all collectors can/should relate to. Thanks again Sorsh for the recommendation.

--- Floortrader --- oppinions are fine, but what you're making are assumptions or even accusations of corrupt business. these are far from oppinions, and are quite frankly wrong! the ONLY sensible idea is to sell something of value where the most eyes will see it. and where the concentration of collectors of your object is the highest. i didn't see the end result but i'm sure the price was higher than ebay even after commission. and you don't need certificates on such items, it's pure waste of money, as the buyer would already know exactly which position and which plateflaws there might, or might not be. |

Multiples of classic stamps, Denmark included, are usually much more valuable than single stamps, though other factors could play an improtant role (i. e. margins, yellowish tone of the paper, etc.). AFA Specialized (Denmark) and Facit specialized (Scandinavian countries) catalogs list values for multiples. Most probably, the best price would be realized on the Danish stamp auction. There are several stamps auctions houses in Copenhagen. I had the best experience with the VF-Auktion ( http://www.vf-auktion.dk/) but only as a buyer so far. |

Another vote for VF-Auktion. I've purchased quite a few items from them without any issues. |

Quote: you don't need certificates on such items I fully agree with Sorsh - similar obviously authentic items are normally sold on auction houses in Scandinavia without anyone even considering certificates. And the buyers are gladly digging deep in their pockets for such rare items of postal history. A lovely item - and the specialist market recognize it as such. |
