Think I'll offer $7.95.

City Stamp of Montreal is an established firm so this may be a legit offer. But if so, why not list in an auction.

Anyone know- what is the record sale price for a stamp on ebay?

I think the $2.50 to mail is just a general amount he/she charges every time. I am sure that no one is foolish enough not to insure or register a mailing of this amount.

Who would drop this kind of money without actually seeing the stamp in person? I agree with area66; this is a marketing move. 'Hey, we handle high end material' advertising for next to nothing.

Why laugh at the shipping charges. If I was able to sell a stamp for $100K I would ship any place in the world by registered mail without charging extra and I think that is exactly what City Stamp would do as well. By the way, the stamp is good and the description is accurate.

He buys stamps for cash and sells for much more cash. It's a simple principle and obviously it is working very well for him. Robert is a big dealer and obviously he is very noticeable.

Peter's likely correct. The seller's listing template has a default shipping amount of $2.50 and he didn't alter it before listing.

I don't see what the big deal is.

No, but it's possible to determine this just for the past year, since ebay periodically purges data for old listings, with searches for completed sales. I'm seeing a top price in 2016 of $9,700 for a US stamp, $2,475 for a Newfoundland stamp, $1,950 for a Switzerland stamp, $1,625 for a Canadian stamp, and $3,000 for Great Britain. There was $10,600 paid for a "collection of Asia." All the foregoing are USD.

I'm seeing results with a few that are higher when sorting by highest sold.

Chinese cover at US$37,000:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brief-China...047675.l2557

U.S. Pan American invert. Can't see exact price since it was a Best Offer sale, but it falls in the sort order above US$13,485.60

http://www.ebay.com/itm/296a-4-PAN-...AOSw7W5XNx8z

Also, it's not for the past year. ebay only retains full data for approximately a 90-day window. July 9 is about the earliest result I'm currently seeing.
