Just got home from GASS. Spent more than I expected to, but it was all worth it. My exhibit on the patriotic covers of Victory, VT, did well (Large Vermiel plus APS Award for Research medal). |

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example. I collect for enjoyment, not investment. APS Member #223433 Postmark Collectors Club Member #6333 Meter Stamp Society Member #1409 |

I purchased a Lineco pH testing pen to check acidity. I checked the paper I use for my album paper and checked out ok. I also tested some original Dennison hinges and they did not. The original package they came in also tested acidic. Your mileage may vary. I have some Prinz hinges somewhere and will test those when I find them along with some purchased album pages. |

angore: Good idea. I've tested the pH for water I use for soaking stamps, ours (and most public water in the US) is alkaline and needs to be adjusted accordingly to zero it out. But have never tried the testing pen for other items. I'll have to get one locally and try it out.
Edit: to avoid any confusion, by "zero it out", I mean adjust it to neutral (7 on the pH scale). |

Bought 6 more binders (on sale!) and 400 sheets of paper. Pulled Romania and the rest of Russia from the Part 1 pages, roughly catalogued, and stored into glassines for the time being. |

For the past three days I have been dissembling binders and removing hinged stamps from pages. I have about 40,000 pre-1930, about half are pre-1900 stamps and staging them in stock books, pending identifications. There are probably 30+/- pages with 1-2 stuck stamps that I'll have to soak off. So far lots of routine stuff but there are some interesting items coming out of it too. These were from a collector/dealer who was apparently running circuit books and packets of his own. All pages are dated with the most recent being 1933, same with a partial inventory. Many will be put on ebay following identification but some may go for certs and to more appropriate venue - tbd. |

Laid out and ready to mount classic St. Helena through St. Vincent. Pulling more stamps from old Part 1 pages, Persia is currently under way... lots of likely forgeries. Update: Finished pulling Persia, then did Peru, Philippines, Poland, Porto Rico, Portugal, and Reunion. I think I have only Netherlands, New Zealand, and Nicaragua left on Part I pages. This is pure happiness as I can see the end of mass pulling of stamps. Here's a pic of the box of glassines that I filled from recent pulls from the old Part I pages. Romania and Russia are sectioned off in the back. 98% of the stamps are already catalogued, just need to verify some perforations and watermarks. |

Continued the painfully slow sorting of modern Germany. Ad because you can never have too many stamps I ordered 8 more ounces. Plus I did some Postcrossing. |
