Now starting to get out and about again as most Covid restrictions lift. Have now completed collection of a Stamps on A Roll labels from all of Dublins (current) 142 post offices. I have now also photographed around 103 of these post offices.
The current number of post offices in the Republic of Ireland is about 935 and I have SOAR labels issued in about 890 and photographs of about 430. The 45 or so that I still have to get are mostly in isolated areas, including some off-shore but a week long vacation in the south west in September should enable me to make progress. The charity for which I collect stamps is once again "open for business" so my long suffering wife will be happy when I can shift bags and boxes of stamps out of our home.

I just today took possession of six boxes (three lots) of S/S I won at the recent Kelleher auction.
This will keep me busy for a while. |

Won some New South Wales stamps last night at auction. Prices where I hang out are still very high. I have not seen things level off. Classic Canadian material at a US auction was going for hundreds over what I was willing to pay. |

I sorted my new French stamps into different eras. I'm a little scared to start identifying the Sower issues. There seems to be quite a bit of variety! They're beautiful stamps, though. |

Depending on how specialized you want to be, the Sower stamps can be fairly straightforward. Some sets were engraved, though most were done by typography. Easy to differentiate.
Some designs can also be sorted by the base under the Sower's feet- plain or a mound on which she stands. If you decide to go further, there are lots of shades, paper differences, and other collectible characteristics. Key is to study a bit, and have fun! |

There are whole books about the sower stamps. As Shermae says, you don't have to go there. If it looks set to cause angst, rather than fun, just say "no". |

I received two mailings from Mystic. One was a solicitation to buy stamps plus it included a survey regarding one's collecting habits. The second was a solicitation to purchase a US 1969 year set for $2. I am always impressed by how much Mystic spends on mail marketing. Of course, it shows up in their pricing. |

Received 100 VARIO 8S pages in the mail today. So just I gathered a handful of other stock pages and tabbed dividers, and repurposed some old empty Mystic American Heirloom binders as stock books. |

I appreciate the encouragement! I think what I'm enjoying the most with philately is that, whether you want to take a dip or a dive, you can have a lot of fun.
I sorted my mixed WW and some of my Austrian stamps. I also got reading about pre-cancels and decided to buy a small lot. I've now crossed into American stamps. Oh no! |

Been sorting 1840-1940 Russia and everything else not still attached to the 1940-1973 pages. Found stamps from at least 7 other countries hiding in the glassines. I call that a bonus since some of those countries I thought I had already finished and now I have some new stamps to mount. I catalogued everything through 1949 and just grouped the rest by decade (50s, 60s, and 70s) for now since there are so many stamps. Going to print pages for regular issues prior to creation of the USSR, and pages for BOB to 1940 and get those mounted. |

To day received Avery 5 mil thick Protector sheets, 2 to 7S Mudor brand stock sheet. I am using Lighthouse vario and Safeguard sheets. But these were less expensive. So thought will give a try. Each came in 25 per packet. Three Binders cleaned and rearranged each has about 100 to 150 sheets in it. Avery Protector sheets are top loading and top secure strip. I think this will give double protection. Waiting for Binder cases from Bindertek.

5 mil protective sheets are very thick. Is there a special need for something that thick or just thinking thicker the better? Most heavy duty are 3.3 mil thick. |
