GeoffHa, I bought several collections from ebay and many were still mounted on album pages, but I opted to make my own because I found they weren't complete and I'd like to have space for everything even if I don't have it right now! The one exception I made was the official ministry stamp overprints—I did leave those on the album pages they came on and filled in as others came in other lots. |

An older thread here in SCF was bumped from 4 years ago, which provided me the opportunity to find some great info I was not aware of. There are 2 pieces of info in there regarding shades/colors I never knew about- Studebaker's very useful Shade Analysis app and a website for converting these colors into a useable name. Here is the link: https://goscf.com/t/12585&whichpage=2#782597 |

Wondered why USPS tracker claims they couldn't deliver an envelope despite the fact that someone was home and able to answer the door. |

Pulling stamps from an old remainder collection to start collecting new countries. I also ordered some Vario pages to use for organizing them. I have a second remainder album but will need to soak many of these since they were mounted excess moisture on hinges. They both used mostly older hinges. |

Finally managed to mount my Poland collection and have gone through about 80% of the varieties I have but have had to stop as I need to print more pages for them. I'll probably get this done over the next week or so. Also started mounting Italy on to Steiner pages and have surprised myself to some extend at the content. Still have a long way to go before I can say I have a decent collection but it has been rewarding getting them out of the glassines. Will have to put on hold pending the arrival of hinges |

Evaseyler, very nice pages; well done.
Paddlemore, think sometimes it is laziness, I've had registered mail tickets left in the stupid kiosks we have to use without a knock on the door, which means they never tried. (And have an app that lets me know when my doorbell was rung.)
Finished hole-punching/spine labeling Venezuela Steiner pages and finally mounted what I'd already accumulated. Fun fun!

My sister and I sorted all my duplicate Argentina stamps last night. Took several hours. Most of them I divided into envelopes for teaching the Pathfinder club stamp honour later in the year , but all of the best condition ones I set aside to resell. There are quite a few. Not worth a lot but mostly all I care about is finding them a new home!
I think this evening I'll start working on my 1980s pages.

Eva, you may not be interested in tagging varieties but note that many Argentinian stamps exist both with, and without tagging. Sometimes, this can be discovered by shade differences between copies of "identical" stamps. Not sure you want to get that far into the weeds. |

I have noticed there are a LOT of variations. Especially the sugar cane stamp—not only in colour tone but also the crispness of the image itself. I didn't know there was a name for it!
There's also a stamp that Stampworld only shows one version of but I have two, one with that classic engraving style printing and the other smooth like a monochrome photo. Definitely keeping both of those just because it's a very obvious difference. I'll take a picture later. Cat is on my lap right now. |

Eva, Quote: I have noticed there are a LOT of variations. Especially the sugar cane stamp—not only in colour tone but also the crispness of the image itself. I didn't know there was a name for it! There may be a correlation, but 'tagging' is an addition of fluor or phosphor to the stamp. This can be through fibres in the paper, mixing the tagging in the paper coating or ink, or applying a tagging over the printed image. Most of the time, tagging is not visible by the naked eye. GB applied phosphor bars. Holding the stamps at an angle to the light casts a shadow on the stamp from the ground phosphor that makes them visible. Most of the time, however, it requires a uv-lamp to detect tagging: just like with banknotes. Tagging can be used to make it more difficult for forgers to forge a stamp. Most tagging, however, was applied for automatic letter sorting and facing. The mail item passes under a light source (uv, longwave for fluor and some phosphors, shortwave for other phosphors). Thereafter the equipment has a device that reads the light signal, recognising the position of the stamp, and in some cases, the type of stamp. It faces the items, so the stamps are in one of two positions, and a canceller applies a cancellation mark. You need to check what type of uv light you need (shortwave or longwave) for Argentinian stamps. An example of tagging on GB: |

I've been working on mounting a group of covers signed by the men who accompanied Byrd on his 1933-35 Antarctic Expedition. |

Went to the First Mile High Stamp Show this past weekend in Golden, Colorado. It was a bourse-only show and I made some really nice additions to my U.S. collection. Last night, I finished mounting stamps in albums and now have a two-inch stack of empty 102 cards. |
