@Blaamand - the biggest hurdle was coordinating the different catalogue numbering systems for the listings on col-nect, since the main catalogs generally do not picture each overprinted stamp but rather list the catalogue number on which the overprint is done. So the process was
1) look up the Michel number of the basic stamp 2) find its equivalent in Scott or Yvert 3) find the overprinted variety later in the Scott or Yvert listings, if they have it (lots of items in Michel not in Scott or Yvert, or listed in different orders or with different release dates, just made the process more difficult.)
but now the grunt work is done and hopefully other collectors will benefit. |

I had seen the Colnet web site before but noticed it shows Scott numbers. I wonder if they have challenged the usage of their numbers? |

Considering it is based outside the USA might not be considered worth the cost of litigation for Scott, esp as the site does not mention the Scott name directly in its information. Also the website has been up since 2003 so one would assume that at some point over the last 14 years if there were issues they would have been dealt with. |

Quote: I had seen the Colnet web site before but noticed it shows Scott numbers. I wonder if they have challenged the usage of their numbers? Scott does not have a problem with their numbers being used for the purpose of describing items for sale. You have seen them used on ebay haven't you? They get aroused when used for identification in "databases" as they view that as infringing on the role and purpose of their catalog. I'm not expressing an opinion on the legitimacy of their claim to be able to "copyright" a numerical ID, I'm just describing what I think is how they distinguish the use of their numbers on ebay from the kinds of online digital stamp dB's that they've gone after. priced up Hong Kong and India lots, including some "uglies", but it will be at least two weeks before I can list them, as I have a business trip this week, and a hunting trip next week. |

went to my local library and picked up the 2016 Scott catalogs, for a donation of 20 bucks, which included the 2016 us specialty. |

I checked out a stamp collection, last Sunday, for a couple of sisters who were hoping to make a killing on their late fathers pile of paper. Mostly UN and some British covers. Nothing of value, I'm afraid, so I directed them to a couple of dealers in the area, telling them not to get their hopes up. What was intriguing was a list Dad had put together in 1979, along with an old Scotts catalogue with all the stamps checked off, of an American collection. Many early items, including #1. He calculated catalogue value (then) at over $6000. Some pretty nice things marked down. If they could find that book, I told them, that's where the money is. Apparently I get first crack, if it ever turns up.
