Blaamand
I guess it could be safer in a Hotel Room, all by yourself and your France stamps, than be on the streets of Rio. Good show ! Good drinks, too

Today I am finishing inventory of part 1 of my WWII stamps...different album style but everything is inventoried.

I can only guess Blaamand has seen all the sights of Rio, or he wouldn't have taken his stamps with him!
Mine would be staying at home!

Part 1 of my WWII album is inventoried. Here are 2 sample pages out of 7. Next Part 2 is: "Allied powers", some 260 stamps.....

Nothing as fancy as others'... a spare album from my neighbour's Cat stamps, given to me and transferred in a smaller binder.

David, no I have not seen all the sights of Rio, seen only a few. After 6 years working in Brazil I have had enough of this place, and I can ensure you the image we have of Copacabana and all the rest of it is nothing but a fantasy. In reality it's extremely noisy, heavy with crime and murders, bad food, unexpected expensive and everything goes so slow it drives me nuts. Brazil is one of the places in the world that I would never ever travel to voluntarily. The only thing I really like here is the friendly people (those who don't want to rob you) - the BBQ and the caprinha s...(my apologies to anyone offended...)
Hence, better stay safe in the hotel room as Rene wisely puts it - and enjoy the company of stamps and stamp-friends on SCF.

Rene - nice stamps !

Yes, I'm afraid to! But being away half the year I need to bring the hobby with me. I'm always keeping the valuable stuff in my handbag, well wrapped in. That's another great thing about the Lighthouse Vario albums, they come in tough protective slipcases.

Surely I cannot be the only 'travelling stamper'?

Thanks Blaamand and I agree wth your impressions on Rio de Janeiro, etc - I have never been in Rio and never will !

He, the album is just a space for the WWII collection, not one for exhibiting but what is impressive is that most stamps are Mint NH and some I have "used" in other albums this based on my inventory up to now.
Did not want to mount them ($$$$$) and time !

Renden,

Very nice pages, I like them. I'd have trouble trying to tie together that material, but you've done a great job.

Blaamand - I worked with a guy who went to Brazil for England's games at the last World Cup, and he only had praise for the country, loved his time there. Having said that he didn't get to Rio, as England were knocked out too quickly!
Keep yourself (and the stamps) safe!

David

The last Olympic games was just a "show" from local organizers to delete any problems and not show us the local poverty etc. Rio is a World Shame (to me)

I created a simple cover page for my Steiner Solomon Island pages. I also laminated it since it is the first page in the binder to prevent wear and tear. I will also put a blank laminated page as the last page in ythe binder.

I just finished mounting some stamps from Cyprus. Have been working on random areas this weekend, a bit of Sweden among others.

Jon, I used to get the same feeling when I went to Rio. Hated it after the novelty of the first visit, and the only place I would make a repeat visit to was the Botanic Garden.

For my sins, I have spent the last 5 hours with a Perfotronic and a very large pile of stamps. The job's not finishes yet, but I am. I now have a sore back and an unquestionable desire for a large medicinal glass of gin.

Made an inquiry to a professional appraiser as I have been gradually sorting through a collection I purchased for $80.00 and am now finding stamps from Great Britain worth $500, $800 and $3000 (2016 Scott Catalog)

Holy cow. Take the money and run? Or reach back out to the seller and make a reasonable adjustment to my original purchase price? I'm thinking the latter, as I won't be able to sleep at night if I don't.

This is not a situation I expected that I would find myself in, so am trying to navigate it carefully and with integrity. My only option, since I don't have thousands of dollars to pay for this collection, would be to sell the collection (probably to a dealer) and then offer the original seller a percentage of the proceeds, less my costs (my time invested in sorting, cataloging and preliminary valuations), less the appraisal fees.

If you've ever been in this situation, I would appreciate reading your kind and thoughtful suggestions.

Have given many stamps but never sold one and I have a big collection due to my father who had multiple collections. Started at 12 yrs old myself. Enjoy collecting, buying, sorting and inventory in my stamp software. Multiple albums and binders etc.
My heirs will have to decide what to do, as long as I have "sanity" !
