Soaked Machins and other odds and sods. They should be sufficiently flattened in time for me to work on them during my holiday break.

The Steiner safari continues. Mostly finished Australia; put a few back in the stock book pending watermark attribution. Got started with Austria.

One stamp I had attributed to Austria was actually from the North German Confederation. Score!

Keeping my work on WWII stamp Collection (1,360 stamps) and putting them in a big binder in 6 parts: No 1 - Leaders of War (done) No 2 - Allied Nations (done)No 3 - The Axis Enemy (done) No 4 - Allied Occupation - As you can see, it starts with a nice lot of Indo-China Mint stamps (but No gum: so they are used). Part 4 has 252 stamps and this is a good start !

Renden - they aren't used, but "unused (no gum, as issued)". These should be in "Japanese Occupation with Vichy puppet government" - no Allied role here!

GeofHa
The title of part 4 was taken from the stamp envelope, original(and never opened) from my father's WWII collection bought n 1974 from H E Harris. On the envelope: "Allied Occupation"....on the Documents that accompany the 6 parts, Part 4 is named "Captive Lands"...so one error for H E Harris right there and the description does mention France's Petain, whose role in the Vichy Government figure-head doomed him to postwar lifetime disgrace. The stamps were inventoried using Scott's 2009 Vol 3 Indo-China and describes the pre 1949 period as a French possession. I do not have any other Catalogue to compare. As for used vs unused no gum, I do not know what to say.
Thanks GeofHa for your input and I shall do more research for the history of this indo-china period and its stamps. It shows the importance that this Forum brings to feed-back -Rene

The Vichy French remained in nominal control of Indo-China - albeit with a good deal of Japanese interference - until March 1945, when the Japanese removed the French regime altogether. Japan's direct rule was, of course, only brief. The Vietnamese declared independence after the Japanese defeat. France sought to reassert its authority, which never again ran through the whole country, and, despite substantial US financial aid, was ended decisively at Dien Bien Phu.

Finished entering the listings in Brusden White for George V Sidefaces into my Stamp Mate. Now only have to do the Commemoratives and Airs and I will be done with Data entry for Australia to the end of George V.

Here is the current stats on number of entries I have for Australia in Stamp Mate. Proof that Scott and Gibbons only really just scratch the surface of the variety of issues for Australia, especially for Color Shades.

1659 different stamps for the years between 1901 (first Federal Postage Due Issues) to the end of the Sidefaces. Including perforated and overprinted OS stamps.

Tonight I was busy mounting Belgium stamps on Steiner pages, familiarizing myself with the King Albert I stamps, of 1915-20, and their different types. Been collecting 45 years and until today, I had no idea there were different "types". The new things you learn when you become a worldwide collector is astounding. It's almost like starting from the beginning again.

Last night my stamp friend Walt came over, he brought some interesting and unusual items. I like to research stuff we both know little about, and find out the story. I will scan some of them and ask questions here. We also looked through hundreds of dealer cards of early Mexican revenues I got recently from a major back-of-the-book/fiscal/revenue collector locally (we'll call him Bill) who has a very impressive worldwide BOB/fiscal/revenue collection/accumulation.

I am trying to delve into revenues/BOB/fiscals but it's SUCH a big area so I'll start on Mexico, as "Bill" also gave me a 1979 Mexican Revenue catalog--very detailed. Not sure about seeking permission but I likely will post snippets of info gleaned from that labor of love in the appropriate section here.

Also last night I opened some previously-purchased "mystery lots" and was pleasantly
surprised to find some recent unopened PTT (France's philatelic sales division). Seems the US isn't the only country with a lot of recent face value going for way less than original cost. Beautiful booklets, commemoratives, coil definitives, all which will update my collection of France.

Back to stamps for now,

Jim Wentzell

I am going back to my post on my WWII collection, and at the time was working on a lot of Indo-China stamps, Scott 210-261 and had questions about Mint no gum found. Well some friends did tell me to "read" the info on page 948 of Vol 3 (2009 Scott Standard Postage stamp cat) and it is there: #210-261 issued without gum. I have my answer.

Today, after receiving (on this site) an opinion on Burma stamps issued under Japanese occupation, 1942-1944, I inventoried a nice Lot and finished the day with Philippines stamps under Japanese occupation 1942 to early 1945.

Love this one -
