Hi All, I am not getting email replies from the ATA office so just want to check a few things out if you have had a topical time checklist from them? What does the stamp ID (far left column) refer to? What do the far right "Non-Nbr'd S/S in Set / Non-Nbr'd M/S in Set" actually mean? Most important of all, if you take / buy a stamp which covers a person in title, does this Topical List include only those SPECIFICALLY in which the stamp was produced or does it include ALL stamps that the person has appeared on? The reason I ask this is, I have become aware that a person can appear on a set of stamps, on which the title has absolutely nothing to do with the person? So an example of this is, you collect President Kennedy stamps and you buy the ATA topical check list under his heading. But he also appears on stamp sets / title, such as Marilyn Monroe! Does the checklist include the Marilyn Monroe stamps as well that he appears on, in the President Kennedy Topical Time Check List?

Tigger, the ATA people are most likely all volunteers. Please give them a few days, for all we know they may be having trouble with the hurricane or something else. They will answer!

StampID is just a sequential "internal" number they assign to all new issues to serve as the "primary key" in the ATA database. If you contact them with issues/corrections/questions about a stamp, you should refer to it using the StampID number.
I can't speak to the Souvenir Sheets and Mini Sheets question other than there are times when Scott doesn't issue catalog numbers for all items. ??
If you collect Kennedy and he appears anywhere on a stamp, it will be included in the Kennedy list -- even if he is not the main subject of the stamp.

The mind boggles at the Kennedy/Monroe combo. I suspect Tuvalu has missed a trick in not issuing a "Kennedy and His Ladeez" series. |

Tigger: The ATA lists are created by members, for members.
They are a very useful starting point, but they are not authoritative.
By way of example, I have yet to see "ATA-compliant" in an auction listing ;)
Your own collecting taste can reign supreme (read "run wild"), and you may include in your collection stamps that are not on the ATA list, and vice versa.
GeoffHa: Hard to believe that a Kennedy stone has remained unturned, but such ideas might best be kept from the public realm.
Cheers,

Kennedy appears not just on Monroe he is quite popular elsewhere but the relation between those two was sort of special was it not and one has to remember the time period of the states and the mob. Girls were much the tool of those days where as these days everything is acceptable. But that is getting away from the subject lol.
To Peter yes my friend I have already taken your point on my other thread.
To KirkS Thanks for your reply, this is an issue I am coming up against Scott have different listing points to out S Gibbons here in UK and then there is a Germany catalogue and I have been told all are or have a very different way of listing stamps. I saw a thread in here which showed a page of a Scotts Cat and I was impressed but then recently I have found SG issue a more detailed Cat which is of course separate and extra money but is much more detailed. I cannot speak on the German Cats as I have only been told about them. And on your reply I may just join ATA as that is really what I wanted to hear but I would have liked it from them. The reason I say this is 649 stamps on Princess Diana seems a little short when you consider Wedding, Birthday and Death! Also the set she appears in with leaders of the world, events, and simply on sets I have no idea why she is on them?!
I knew you'd catch up with IkeyPikey, geez you must have a full time job in these forums Stamporama and this????? Last I recall you saying about me was I am "Snarky" ?? Far from it I would add but there you go, we all have standards I suppose.

I do have to say, since I have been in these forums I have never learned so much and Geography being one of them and stamp terminology another!
I know this is not stamp collecting question but does the Panama canal have bridges across it or tunnels underneath it to connect both sides? |

OK went to join and can someone tell me what this section means Checklists/publications (email americantopical@msn.com or call 618-985-5100 with your order) Which is followed by a list of monetary amounts, drop down menu? I am assuming, this is if you wish a checklist under your collecting theme? Now considering I am not receiving email replies and I am most certainly not phoning, just where do I stand??? Sort of tells a story does it not and whilst I really do wish to join. I think I will pass on this, considering they want me to agree on a policy of ethics to which they cannot keep up with themselves!! I would have to email them for my checklist, errrrr I don't think so.... When they can be bothered to reply to an email I may join. |

Tigger, the Panama Canal has at least two large spans crossing the waters. One is part of the Pan American Highway and is called the Centennial Bridge.

I'm not a current member, but when I joined, I printed the form, wrote my name, and sent a check. It was very low stress and I never had problems purchasing a list.
But I agree, Tigger. You seem very consternated by this process. Maybe you should just pass on it. |

Hi KirkS, well I would really loved to have joined and got the check list I wanted but there you go, sadly not. Who knows I may have been able to contribute something on my collecting topic. But as IkeyPikey points out, its made by members for members, except for those who do not know how to reply to emails lol lol. |

With very few exceptions, all of these organizations are staffed by volunteers, any one of whom has done more for the hobby than I. Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |
