Hi all, I am not a stamp person, I am hoping you can help answer a question. I have a large quantity of mint, unused Australian domestic stamps, mostly small denominations (45 cents and under). I'm wondering if there is any way to "cash in" these unused stamps, I guess at Australia Post? I could of course simply use them as postage but I do not have that much to post and sending a parcel with $8-20 in stamps worth 30c to 45c is a real pain. I tried listing some on ebay at 90% of face value but surprisingly no-one was interested... Thanks in advance for any tips!

In the UK, mint stamps valid for postage typically go for around 60% of face at auction, so you're probably setting your starting price too high. Attractiveness for postage is also affected by the denominations - lots of low-value stamps are a pain to use up. I don't believe that any postal authorities buy back their old stock! |

Thanks for your reply. The 60% figure is interesting, considering stamps are like cash. |

Hi 9985, Yes unfortunately your best option is postage if you want to utilize full value. Are they in blocks, sheets, different issues?

If you can't sell them and don't want to use them then find a youth or club that can. Donate them and they will bring more value to you by giving. |

Quote: Except, of course, that stamps are not like cash ... Actually in US prisons stamps are exactly like cash (and used that way since prisoners have limits on holding real currency). So the solution is simple; commit a crime, go to prison, use up your extra stamps! Don |

Quote: ... Actually in US prisons stamps are exactly like cash (and used that way since prisoners have limits on holding real currency) ... That stamps are used as a medium of exchange does not require that stamps can be exchanged for cash at face value. Cash is King; one would not expect, on a normal day, to be able to sell stamps at face value, even in prison. Quote:http://www.trentjonas.com/2013/08/f...urrency.html ... When I was at FPC Duluth, the value of a 1st class "forever" stamp was pegged at 30 cents. You may have paid 45 cents for it at the commissary, but on the 'pound it was worth 30 cents. On occasion, if there was a shortage of stamps on the compound (i.e., demand exceeded supply), the price of stamps would creep up toward actual value ... http://prisonwriters.com/stamps-as-...y-in-prison/ ... exchanges rates vary with the class of custody Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

lol the old Mint with no gum (used but not cancelled) several great Australian Auction houses offer this material usually at 40% to 50% face. 100s of dollars worth. Found by kiloware hunters and charity houses.
While yes very illegal if we Australians can save a buck we will do so. Australia post have made it very hard with different gum types used and the removal and soaking of most issues becoming very difficult. |

All Australia self adhesives come off paper as easy as. The only difficult ones are found from the 55c era being Corrugated Landscapes, Not Just Deserts and Micro Monsters but all you have to do is increase the temperature of the soaking water.A bit of experimenting 1st and no worries. Check out these Australia kiloware purchase prices. This mad man or women has been doing this for years. From Status Auctions Quote: 582 Kiloware: $1.00 Pics/Commems on close clip single paper. Wide variety, with uncancelled sighted. Weight 4.8kg. Offered on behalf of Mary MacKillop International Mission. SOLD at A$2700 And Quote: 580 Kiloware: 70c Pics/Commems (No Concessions) to end 2015, with uncancelled sighted. all on close clip single paper. Weight 4.9kg. Offered on behalf of Mary MacKillop International Missions. SOLD at A$1700 |
