If you are going to flyspeck Australia,
Stamp clubs often have these specialists catalogues
So cheap they even give them away.

Try and pick an old one up.
Lots of fun, for basically nothing,
let's hope you find a rarity.

Hello everyone,
That's what makes this forum a pleasure to visit, that and the lack of agro. when I ask stupid newbie questions & miss reading information in my cat. ;)

I found 4 more out of about 150 at a guess last night, as well as two normal watermarked ones stashed carefully away on their own. I'm guessing two ends of the colour/inking range as well as the second one not having inner frame lines in the number tablets. They need a wash though.
The flyspecking/prospecting will be next, but the page rod222 shows above has made me realised I had assumed correctly a while ago about my need for much more detailed catologues.
I've been cherry picking all mine for my girl & putting aside the less common & higher values for her to keep for a rainy day or sell if she wishes to. So I have found older cat.s CV lists a problem when trying to leave an indication marked for her to go by later. It makes things a little more difficult & time consumimg.
I'm going too have to think on it a bit to work out my best way forward with all my Aussie stamps that are involved in my quest, but in the mean time I'm having some fun.
Thanks everyone.
All the best......Jad

Good to see you enjoying yourself Jad.

Always remember when flyspecking, that Mint unhinged stamps are the benchmark.
When you study used stamps, they bring with them, often, bad husbandry.

Your second top right stamp (Postmark Richmond Victoria) has faded due to improper use, hot water in soaking ?
(always use cold water) or light damage, or whatever.
Even Postmarks can make a stamps design look something, which it is not.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks rod222,
No worries with the water, I've been to frightened to use anything but cold boiled rain water for the past few years, even when looking for tuff wmks, after seeing the colour leaching in the damp damaged albums I've been working through.
I'm sorry to say most of my Aussie stamps were from those very old double sided no page dividers type albums, I'm sure you know what that means perf. wise :(
But thought it was worth the time & effort to save as many as I could from the wheelie bin for the sake of maybe 2 or more being scarce.
But these & the KGVs are all in a container that I haven't got to yet for sorting or washing. Tooooo many others to side track me on
I'm starting to enjoy this more than the years of slow soaking off ;)
Appreciate all the help from you all here over this time greatly.
Respectfully.....Jad

Hello Jad,
I didn't realise you were in Oz.

If you ever need Australian stamps, I have bucketfuls, sitting around getting lonely.
You can email me with what you are after, and a suitable forwarding address.

If you are beginning in stamp collecting, the one thing you may want to entertain
before you even pick up a stamp to study, is the ability to "hinge" properly.

This is a skill, when properly developed will keep you in good stead, for the rest of your life.

Your target : to use a basic hinge, any hinge, (I use Prinz from Germany) 1000
for around $4
After applying the hinge, you should be able to remove the stamp from the page,
and the hinge from the stamp, with a barely noticeable evidence, it should peel off
in a smooth release.
This skill takes practice, use the moisture from your bottom lip, or whatever, and just very lightly dab the hinge, not wet, but just on "tacky"
Practice, practice, practice,

There is nothing worse, than approaching a nice stamp to place in your collection,
and have it "grab" and damage, make a "thin" or like many used by beginners, absolutely "glued" to the page.

The real test of a correctly hinged stamp, is the ability to remove with tongs, without laying a finger on the stamp.
See if you can achieve that

I may have a duplicate Specialists catalogue, if you want to pay postage
(about $3)

Morning all,
I have to agree KGV :) Outstanding help & time spent.

Rod222, Thankyou for your kind offers, I'd be more than willing to pay for postage &/or a duplicate, at the least allow me to balance the scale, if you have an empty space list for your nice pages you've made, I'd be happy to check though my early world wide stamps. If we can't fill any there I'm sure I can interest you in some of my India states
I was looking at that very brand of hinge when I ordered my US Specialty multigauge from USA 2 weeks ago, I left it because I was going to ask in the forum if maybe the prefolded hinges would be easier for me to start on, & here we are talking about it :)
I have to say at one point of my path I swore never to put a hinge on a stamp & only use hingeless mounts, but soon realised how exspense that folly would be for my cheapies
Yourself & KGV will relate to the scan I'm sure, some times you win & lose all at once in this hobby it seems. Waiting for a thread on a magic fix for half a jar of these.
Please let me know or message me on how I can get the funds to you when you have time, & I can message/Email you my PO Box address.
I'm going into a busy 4 days right now here so no rush mate.
Hope I'm on the right side of the forum rules with all this.
Catch up with you when I get a chance Rod, take care.
ATB....Jad
