Hi Greg
From what my husband tells me you need photoshop or something similar to edit your scans. I'll ask him tonight if there is a simple program you can download that will work

Windows comes with MS-Paint. Just look in the "Accessories" folder.
I don't know what you want to do, but you can rotate, resize, cut out part of it, save it in different formats, etc.
I actually have the granddaddy of them all - Adobe Photoshop, but about 90% of the time, I use Paint because it's a lean, mean photo machine and it does what I need to do.

There are free picture hosting sites: photobucket and picture hosting. You will get a minimal account to upload pictures. the site will give you a bulliten board url for the picture. I use it in various auctions and it works great. The 2 sites are www.picturehosting.com and www.photobucket.com Check them out. |

If you want a full-fledged image editor that is similar to Photoshop, but free, you might want to look at GIMP. Pros: quite powerful, free Cons: a bit of steep learning curve, not the most stellar documentation |

I know this is an old thread but I have already recently answered an old thread and thought I would share on this one again
I use three main programs for all my basic stamp image needs -
1) FSCapture - Screen capture tool, allows you to draw a square around any portion of your screen and capture the image that is there. The latest version is not free but if you get hold of the previous version it is freeware (I have a copy if you want). Probably my most valuable tool when it comes to images. 2) As stated before Office picture viewer - I use this for cropping, rotation and viewing folders. You need microsoft office to get it but there are others that I could replace this with. 3) Fast image resizer - Allows you to select any amount of images and drop them into the program and it will resize your images, keeping the quality but making the files smaller. Great for uploading images to the forum or any other website. Freeware.
I could not live without the above three - them and my scanner Epson V350 which allows me to preview a page of stamps, draw boxes around each stamp on the page and the whole page and scan the whole lot at once effectively breaking up a page into 20 and sometimes more individual scans.

Picasa by google interfaces your printer scanner.... and allows tweeking and editing etc. I save my images large and then edit them to paint for website and craigslist listings. Just as a side note...if you use blogger as a catalogue....it automatically reduces images for the page with a magnifier to see very large versions of the same image....great if your trying to display a lot and let the reader choose which images to enlarge. message me if you need more info.

I also use Picasa to edit my pics, and Faststone to re-size them for this board |

I use the old (and 'free', it used to come on those CD's sold with comp. magazines) version PSP (Paintshop Pro)it does everything including image re-size and its relatively small and quick. Still works well with XP even though it was designed for much earlier versions of Windows.

There are links to it on the posting page that open in a new window so you can go edit an image and not lose anything you've typed. |
