1915 Stamped Envolope Scott#U429? How do I determine the "die number"?

This envolope stamp cut sqaure,and never cancelled needs a die number?

Can anybody help?

There are seven (7) different dies used for this envelope, and all seven are explained in the Scott catalog, with pictures.

My guess is Die I - Letters broad, Numerals vertical, Large head [9½ mm from tip of nose to back of neck], "E" closer to inner circle than "N" in CENTS.

Oldguy did a good job. I agree with the assessment of Die 1.

One minor correction: the head size is 9 1/4 mm for Die 1.
