Wow, I was just informed by an ebay seller that stamps with hinge and paper remnants are "lightly hinged!"

I've been collecting stamps for over 60 years and I never knew this fact. How could I have gone all these years being so uninformed?

I wonder...is the seller "ignoring" that this is a used stamp?

The paper adhesion is probably from being stuck to an album page. The stamp does not appear to be used otherwise.

I wonder what this seller's definition of "heavily hinged" would be?

Scott Catalog is rather specific about this.

Yes, in my edition "lightly hinged" means "faint impression of a removed hinge over a small area," i.e. no remnants.

I would rather others leave the hinge remnant on than have them try to rip it off (and take a bunch of gum/paper with it) just so they can describe it as 'lightly hinged'.

Yeah, one picture is his used(5%), cancelled and stained stamp, other is where he found an auction for pristine example. This is so you will gladly pay 500$ for his, cause he is having a newborn. Yikes! A true investment piece, sure to grow more valuable over the next few years. Maybe it will eventually become 100% mint. Sorry couldn't resist the rant.
Thanks Mike33, needed a good laugh.

Well, the cancel only covers 5% of the surface of the stamp. The other 95% of the face is mint.
