I have just started seriously collecting German stamps and have a real beginner's question.

I have Palo Economy albums. In some sections, and here I mean specifically the Wurttemberg section, because that's where I started, some stamps appear in a light, almost fuzzy printing. At first I thought it a printing error, but the same stamp appears right next to it, perfectly printed. What does the fuzzy print signify?

If I could get to the library and look at a catalog, I think I could figure it out, but it's a little hard for me to get around these days, and I'm dying to know what's going on.

Thanks for your help..

Don

It may not mean anything other than a poor print job.

Someone else on this board was complaining about buying a Palo Economy album, he felt the illustration quality was low.

SCF members are very helpful with such problems.

Without a picture or a scan it is next to impossible to provide help.

Here's a scan of a page. You can see that there are two places for 25 pf. stamp and three for the 50 pf.

I got a clue. I came across two identical stamps, but they were different colors. And there were two images in the album, so my guess is that the fuzzy images denote a different shade or color.

I'd like to hear what other people think. Thanks.

Don

If you look in the Scott catalog you would see those stamps are listed in different colors, with different catalog numbers

As floortrader said, the spaces are for the different major colors of the same value. I am a little surprised that the maker did not indicate the colors in the spaces. After all, they went to trouble to include the spaces and screen the illustrations. Logically, one would think they would have included the color names.

Also, unless there is another page with with more of these values, they are leaving out some major issues...such as the 2 Mark and 5 Mark bicolored stamps.

I knew it was an "economy" album when I bought in, and I also knew that it didn't have Scott numbers, or anybody else's numbers. I was surprised that it didn't, except in a couple of instances, indicate color. I have to get a catalog.
