I have the following stamps on paper with their cancellations. My quandary is, if I could use the stamps in my collection, do I soak them off? Or is there a collector interest in stamps on paper with cancellations? As if there was, I would use them as trading material.

Thanks.

Save, that is why they were cut this way. It would have been much better to leave them alone in the first place of course, but people didn't think that way back in the day.

I would definitely leave them intact - apart from anything else, I think they look great like this.

Well, another thing to consider is the quality of the paper they are on. If it is high acid content, this acidity will percolate into the stamps, causing damage.

Nearly all of these stamps are 100+ years old. They have survived so far, as have many thousands of covers and post cards, so that does not seem like a major issue.

Opinion: Never.
They are fabulous postmarks, more valuable on piece.

Example: An average stamp from Australia worth a few pennies, can easily reach $12 for a decent postmark, but more than that, by soaking you are destroying a tiny part of postal history.

Simply check your catalogue for the value, if it is a common stamp, wait for others to arrive, soaking would be senseless on common stamps.

Try to adopt the sense that you are the caretaker of philatelic material.
Good Luck.

Here, a collection of Railway Stations, a foggy memory recalls this was sold over $50
See how many would lose their relevance, if soaked.

Thanks for all of the responses. I figured that not soaking was the way to go, but wanted to hear the views of the collective.
