Long term, the only way to collect multiples, plate # varieties, and marginal/gutter stamps of modern U.S. stamps is with the imperforate varieties, when they are available. The rouletted, self-adhesive stamps will lose their adhesiveness at some point, and fall off the foil backing.
One way to collect sound, postally used multiples of modern U.S. stamps is to use the USPS certificate of mailing. In this way, you receive nice cancellations, plus you retain the form. So, you avoid the mail stream with all of its inherent hazards. No scrapes, no tears, and no ball point pens.
Does anyone else do this? Any thoughts?
