I'm new to stamps and a total novice, but in attempt to contribute to the stamp community boards I googled around and I found images of your stamps. I found a reference to them being 1942 Panama unissued Discovery of American stamps.

Hope that helps.

I was afraid of that, unissued. Did you search on "Discovery of American"?

I used google image search with terms: panama columbus 1492

Then used terms: panama columbus 1942

After my posts I found more info at this site:

On October 13, 1935 Ecuador released a similar set:

Rod

Actually, Stanley says (in his South America catalogue) "A set of five postage and five air stamps showing the flagship of Columbus was issued by the Sociedad Columbista Panamericana in October 1935 but their status as postage stamps is doubtful".

I also have a couple of stamps from a Cuban series, of which Gibbons says, "In 1935 a set of stamps commemorating Columbus was authorised but cancelled when the shipment from the Spanish printers was delayed. The stamps never had franking value in Cuba".

Hi Geoff,
thanks for the information.

I have a full set of the "SPECIMEN" overprints,
I am sure I have mounted them, but cannot find the page at the moment.
