Whoever Joe Malone was, he would have been living in the city of Murfreesboro at that time given the "City" notation on the cover meaning that it was mailed from within the city. The cancelation has the old name of the city on it - Murfreesborough. Ready would have been 52 years old by then - 25 years after the end of the war. Here is his wartime record: 1861: Lt.
