This minkus Supreme Global set of 3 albums with only 5000+ stamps( per seller) is now going on ebay for 1377 USD and has 35 bids! Looks very ordinary. Am I missing something obvious here? aragorn
Aragorn: like you apparently did, I went through the scans and did not see anything that would invite a bid of $1,300+. I did see Canada Scott #158 and 159 used; as well as an apparent mint set of Greece C1-4. Maybe some early Russians of value; and some China. Can't tell what the condition of these are just from the scans.
If I was bidding; and of course I'm not since I already have the vast majority of all those common values; I would not bid more than 10 cents per stamp; or $500; for this collection. So, no, from my perspective, you're not missing anything at all except potentially an unscrupulous seller. Steve
This seller "pavstamps" is very popular and has a strong following. I follow Worldwide Collections and look at the auctions with the most bids. Pavstamps often has several in the top 10. I know the seller and he's a good guy but I never bid on his auctions too pricey!
Thanks steve. To be fair the seller didn't set the price but the market is behaving outrageously. In general collections mounted in minkus /Harris albums don't generate as high a bids as say a classical collection mounted in a big blue or browns even if they have similar stamps on them so this one piqued my interest! Ken, I have started to ballpark estimate the price of these worldwide collections per your very informative post a few months earlier on this forum. It is crazy what some folks are willing to pay for commonplace stuff. aragorn
Collection sold for $1377. I would value stamps at $300 and I generally do not add much if any for albums. When I purchased collections they were only Big Blue. I would not purchase Harris.
I would purchase Big Blue with 8,000 stamps for $500.
