Rod

My opinion....Duplex kill cancel......12 bars.......am searching where ? The first Duplex cancels were supplied in 1860 in Canada by Berri (of London, England). This stamp from Nova Scotia is from 1860 but may have been used some years after. From Nova Scotia I do not have any references (City or Town)......am looking elsewhere - Good question !

Looks like a New Brunswick cancel. Could this be possible?

Rod and Gilles,
Am going through a special reference book, "The Postal History of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick 1754-1867", by Jephcott, V.G. Greene and John H. M. Young (Published in 1964)and a section deals with various cancellers used from 1851 in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. They do look quite similar and are not Duplex Cancels. Will scan the reference ASAP and put it on this thread. Presently, what we see is a partial cancel so it will be up for grabs and my scans will include Town, recorded dates and R.F. for both Provinces. It is too late to produce this now......Very interesting, Rod !!

Look forward to viewing information.
Certainly not a Duplex.
Large Oval , 11 or 12 bars.

Have seen similar Pmks on other countries (Turkey etc)
which are forgeries.

Update:
Looks to be a common "Oval Grid Cancel" (11 Bars)
[as opposed to a similar "Open Oval Grid" (bars do not have an oval ring)....or, "Rimless Oval Grid cancel"

Nice Pages, Rod

As promised yesterday, here are my scanned information on Postage stamp cancellations in Nova Scotia (Canada) and New Brunswick (Canada), both eastern Provinces of our Country. This data mentions 1851 as the date postage stamps were to be cancelled (see text)
Scan 1 - Reference page of Book
Scan 2 and 3 - Postage stamp cancellations of Nova Scotia
Scan 4 and 5 - Cancellations of New Brunswick.

Based on this reference, Rod's 5 cent 1860 Nova Scotia stamp would have been cancelled with a "350" type of cancellation (11 bars).

Wow!
A cracker of a Post Rene........Bravo!
Splendid info. Thank you very much indeed.

I have some valuable mint coil strips of 4 squirrelled away for you,
will send in a few weeks time.

In auction docs, #350 is referred to as an "Open Oval Grid" referring to the space in the middle.

Gilles,

That is actually a very useful tidbit of information. I've looked at these cancellations enough, but I hadn't thought about it in those terms. Cool.

You know, Rodney. After going through this thread, and one of your old ones on Austrian stamps over there on TSF (we miss you by the way), I have to say you do have some amazing pages of stamps.
Your home must be chock 'a block with paper.
