I think Sao Tome & Principe (St. Thomas & Prince Islands) is the smallest country in West Africa. Located just south of Togo and off Gabon coast. I believe Gambia and Cabo Verde are also smaller than Togo. But nice stamps regardless.

Gambia is the smallest country in continental Africa. If you include the islands then Seychelles are the smallest.
