"The ½d value saw just one setting with no dot"
I'm trying to understand what this means and where the"no dot" is missing.
Can you help with further explanation and pics?
Sorry to be a pain- but just can't understand
Thanks
Paul
Paul,
The Ash inscribed printing plates used for postage dues from the 1938 issue onwards were constructed so that a printing of 240 frames were made in a single pass.
The upper sheet of 120 had an imprint that had no dot, the lower sheet of 120 had the dot included.
When the 'Ash' imprint was removed and replaced with the 'By Authority' version, the same plates were used but the lettering was replaced. The dots remained.
In some issues, different values were printed on the upper and lower sheets in the second printing process on frame plates sheets that were held in stock. For the 1938 issue, the ½d, 3d and 1s only no dot Ash imprints are seen. This means these values were only printed on the upper sheet. When these were printed, the lower sheet would have been printed with the 1d, 2d, 4d or 6d on the bottom sheet.
