height differences likely due to paper speed variations, as someone else already suggested |

Has anyone received the kiosk FDC yet? I ordered last month but the website is still showing it as a pre-order. |

With regrds to BCPOSTALS picture to limit purchases, that sign has been around for a while. I have a picture of it from 12 Dec. The same sign has been seen at other locations too. The machines used to have a tendency to freeze up if you left your credit card in too long and would sit in a Loading Perifperals screen. Not sure if that is still the case though. I have not seen my order for stamps or FDC which I ordered at the beginning of December. |

Good news. I did receive my 5 strips of the permanent stamps from Canada Post today. The Lismer stamp has 3 different height of the word ' permanent". a medium, a large and a small letters....I'll post images shortly |

This image is from 3 consecutive strips of 5, as received from my Canada Post - Postes Canada order. They are from a single scan of the 3 strips, and I cut and pasted the lettering area side by side. As one can see, there are 3 different heights to the text. (Only the P is shown, but you can also see the top of longer t of the large letters. From the 20 strips I saw so far, it appears that the major differences appear mainly on the 4th stamp of the strip (Lismer one, from the Vancouver version) One other interesting point is that they all appear to bear the exact same 14 digit number. The date is Oct 31, while it is known that the november 16 stamps I obtained vrom the Vancouver machine had the 18 digit codes. This leads me to believe there is something strange going on with the ones sold by the Post office, via on-line purchases. |

Since the dates are computer generated the kiosk software used by the post office to print their special strips can be done with whatever date they want. If they were to use a regularly configured kiosk the last 4 digits would be changing all the time since they reflect Minutes and seconds. They have selected 1 second past the hour as the time for them all to be consistent. In the same manner they picked 341 which is the Vancouver office but did not use the Vancouver kiosks to actually print these special strips. The fact they picked October 31 is likely the most inconsistent piece since I have not heard of any strip out of Vancouver prior to 19 November, and no 14 digit code until 25 November. So these just become a collectible variety since the format of these strips themselves don't match what is dispensed anyways. The character height on the 4th stamp just highlights the issue they have on all the kiosks which tend to have the variation on the 4 stamp. This is still not likely a font variation, but a problem caused by the printer on a paper feed issue. |

Quote: The fact they picked October 31 is likely the most inconsistent piece since I have not heard of any strip out of Vancouver prior to 19 November, and no 14 digit code until 25 November. The new Vancouver Main Post Office opened on Oct 31st so the FDC has a dual symbolic purpose for the new location and introduction of the new kiosk which appears to have been operational from the beginning (but may not have been set up to print postage on demand at first). I wouldn't be surprised if the Dec 2012 Kiosk FDCs were similarly back dated. |

I received my mail order strips today. Apparently the FDC's are being shipped separately. Actually, when I placed the order, I also ordered some Star Trek items. All three were shipped separately! A good thing the total order was enough for free postage.
My strips appear to all have the "medium" font that Gilles shows, except for one pane, which has the "small" font on the second (Tom Thomson) stamp. |
