For collectors new to Australia,

PS: The hinge packet is full of the Australian error stamp.

The vignette is Captain John Shortland , Lieutenant's John Shortland's father.

Cheers Frank,
I thought I would mention it, if new students of Australia read some catalogues,
they see listed "Captain John Shortland" and see on their stamp "Lieutenant"
they may not understand it.

South Oz: I think you'll find she's holding her husband's beard, which she's removed in a rough and ready way with the sheep shears.

The contrast between the quality of design and execution of that issue and the recent efforts is quite extreme. Those bicentennial joint issues are shockers!

G'day Geoff,
I think of it as the worldwide trend in Philately since the 1970's, 1980's as the tendency towards the "cartoon"
I have my own opinions on that, but that's all they are, opinions.
I'll let the Philatelists over the next century reflect and make commentary.

It is worth mentioning, our first Commonwealth stamp, the Kangaroo and Map, faced IMMENSE ridicule, when released. Shame! shame !

Now we hold it in reverence, it typifies the Australian boldness, to be individual, not to adopt a bust of the British Monarchy at the time.
Collected worldwide with tenacity and huge prices, every dint and scratch pored over and catalogued.

The only constant, in our universe, is change.
