These are both colour trials for the issued War Fund labels. There were some on display at Stampex in London in September in the special Cinderella section.

Nice items filipo !

Hell Michael! Nice to hear from you. Nice photo shoot made on the exibition... did you make it by yourself?

Frankly, I have never seen before that one with the 3 royalties. On the other side, stamps with the suicidal (?) lady are very common... in sets of 12 colours (I think), in complete souvenir sheets etc. I just have tried to type "National Philatelic War Fund" both in the ebay and Google... and all the examples which popped-up were just with the suicidal lady... I can't find an example with 3 royalties anywhere on-line? Are you sure that it has been issued? Probably is scarce if I can't find it anywhere on sale.

Got curious but cannot find anything on this lady. I search the 'The Order of St. John of Jerusalem' (which had a part in this Cinderella issue) thinking she must be related but didn't find anything.

Anyone have the story on this lady?

The lady is from the lithograph titled "Take Up the Sword of Justice" by Sir Bernard Partridge, 1861-1945, and was reproduced on British WW I Propaganda Posters. You can Google that title for more information and to see the original.

Hardly suicidal. She still has her scabbard on.
And never one to miss an opportunity, here's my little sheet.

The script at the bottom reads 'In aid of the Society of the British Red Cross and the Order of St. John of Jerusulem'

The original propaganda poster that inspired the vignette appears in this old thread:

https://goscf.com/t/17575

I had assumed without knowing that the sinking ship was the Lusitania and I see that KGB answered several years later that he was pretty sure it was, in fact, the Lusitania. I missed his answer when it first showed up, so I'm glad to see it now.

Just an occasional softball to keep up your aim, Luv.

I had thought of Victoria, but wasn't she really old?

Yes - they plainly used young artists' models to fool the peoples of the Empire.

The War Fund label was used on the front cover of the National Philatelic War Fund Auction Catalogues. There were two National Philatelic War Funds Auctions. The proceeds from these went to the British Red Cross and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.

The 1916 War Fund Auction was held at 47 Leicester Square on 13 & 14 March 1916 and raised over £3,000. Perkins Bacon printed the 50 page catalogue which included on the front, a die proof of the label. It is based on that used on the front cover of the programme at the 1914 Philatelic Congress. A further sale of outstanding items was held on May 15th.

The 1917 War Fund Auction was held at Caxton Hall on 16 April 1917. A similar catalogue to the first event with the same die proof was supplied by Perkins Bacon.

The back of the catalogue has a nice engraving.

In the back image, is that Queen Victoria with a "Ponytail" ?
Not seen that ever before.
