Great scans and info, mikyh. Thank you!

I suppose that the upper example on the exhibition display which, Londonbus1 kindly presented to us, is just cut-square from the catalog - instead to be a colour trial? It has the yellow paper colour just as the catalogue, and only 2 below it are described as "colour trials" in fact.

Do you have an information that also a BLUE label was used on the catalogue (or somewhere else) or is just has stayed as a colour trial?

Great stuff.

In the back image, is that Queen Victoria with a "Ponytail" ?
Not seen that ever before.

Which portrait are you referring to, rod? I see lots of chignons...perhaps the 3 o'clock example in the bottom set? (The Humphrys head from Ceylon, most famously?)

Yes filipo, the label for the top example from LondonBus1 says Die Proof and looks like it has been cut from the catalogue.I went to the same show! The catalogues would have been printed in one colour only. The one I have is the only one I've ever seen.

Better images of the back:

Hi Cjd,
It was the top left of last scan enlargement. (Thank you)
My error,
Her Majesty's "Penny bob" or chignon, melded with the engine turning
and gave me a wrong interpretation.

Any idea what are market values of these kind of Die (or Colour) Proofs?

One friend asked me to trade those with him, and I am not sure to keep them for myself or let them go. They are not my kind of stuff, really...
