I have a rather nicely centered and clean revenue. The cancel is a double ring cancel with what appear on the front to be cutting lines. When flipped over, there is an impression, but no cuts. Holding the stamp up to a strong light shows not even a pin prick of light through the stamp from either side.

The question here is whether this failed cut cancel still warrants being called a cut cancel or is it a completely sound stamp? The difference in value is $100.00.

I'm interested in finding out what our experts on revenues think of this.
Here's the images.

Opinions will vary on this, but in my opinion the cancel type makes it a cut cancel, regardless of whether the paper surface is a broken or not. That said, in my opinion it would be worth somewhat of a premium over a regular cut cancel; something between cut and uncut.

That is a cut cancel. Especially since it is clearly visible from the back.

Thanks guys. I was leaning toward it being a cut cancel just because it was a device which was meant to do so, even if operator error didn't allow it to be so.

I also agree that although it is a cut cancel, it may be worth more than one which had successfully penetrated all the way through.

It's more likely that the device was dulled from use then any operator error. These devices were usually pretty simple and hard to mess up.
